Following a heart attack in 2012, Edna was later diagnosed with heart failure and in 2020, when it was realised nothing more could be done for her condition, she was referred to St. Luke's Hospice. The hospice has since provided invaluable help and support, particularly after the death of Edna's beloved Roy in 2021 and more recently as her health began to rapidly deteriorate. She died on the 4th of August 2022.

St Luke's provides specialist care, free of charge, to adults in South Essex with advanced progressive illness from diagnosis to the end of life. Care and support is also provided to family members, friends and carers. In order to achieve this they rely on grants and donations and this is why Edna and I decided that rather than floral tributes, we would prefer donations to the hospice please.
